Mukalya is a family owned private game reserve on the banks of the Lower Zambezi close to the Kariba Dam wall, Zambia. It was founded to conserve and preserve Zambia's wildernesses by reintroducing wildlife into this area and protecting the trees within the Reserve in order to restore the environment back to the glory it once was.
UNESCO declared several areas of the Lower Zambezi as World Heritage sites. The region is home to a ‘remarkable concentration of wildlife’, especially for its big game. Travellers can enjoy herds of elephants and buffalos, an impressive population of Nile crocodiles, as well as predators such as lions, leopards and the African wild dog.
The Mukalya Lodge and Reserve originally were established as family holiday destination, starting off with a property of 50 acre in size. Based on a passion for wildlife, the owners then expanded the place through further property purchases. After being a private family destination for 13 years, the lodge and reserve were opened to visitors for luxury ecotourism experiences in 2020.
Activities on site include Fly Fishing and guided game drives. A luxury day cruise also takes clients further down the Zambezi river to a stunning site in the GMA (Game Management Area) and into the bordering Lower Zambezi National Park.
