De Zeekoe is a beautiful guest house farm just outside Oudtshoorn, South Africa. The property is 2000ha in size and surrounded by the famous Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains. This area, called the Klein Karoo, is characterized by 3 overlapping vegetation zones, while South Africa as a whole is recognised as one of the earth's 17 megadiverse nations.

De Zeekoe’s unique charm and extraordinary activities attract guests of a different kind. People from all walks of life visit this stylish lucerne farm and game reserve in search of a unique experience.

Conservation & Community Highlights:

  1. Located in an area of 3 overlapping vegetation zones
  2. Home to 168 bird species
  3. Protection of the "Shy5" species which are mostly nocturnal mammals of the Karoo: meerkat, bat-eared fox, aardvark, porcupine and aardwolf
  4. Daily walking tours to experience wild habituated meerkats
  5. Employment and housing to 20 families on the farm
  6. Zeekoegat Primary currently schools 120 primary children and 90 pre-primary children and has been open since 1938

 

Future Aims:

  1. De Zeekoe-Trust's long term goal is to rebuild the whole primary school, seeing that the building has become unsafe and unstable. The trust was formed by the adjoining landowners of Safari Ostrich Show Farm.
