Olas Verdes Hotel is located at the Playa Guiones along the Costa Rican coastline on 2.5 acres of forested land.
Olas Verdes was the first LEED Platinum certified hotel in Costa Rica and recognized for its multiple and meaningful sustainable practices.
Since its creation, the hotel aimed to become an extension of the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, by recovering the forest with 100% native plants and trees. It has created a safe zone used as corridor, shelter and feeding grounds for the local variety of species and richness of the ecosystem.
Conservation & Community Highlights:
- Escuela de las Delicias (adopted a small public school about 10 miles from the hotel)
- Member of the Bandera Azul Ecologica, which work to keep the beach pollution free and education, and supporters of CostasVerdes, a beachfront reforestation program
- Economic and logistic support to the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, including the donation of US$1 per guest per night to the Refuge
- Partnering with Guardianes de la Naturaleza, an education pilot program for kids in public and private schools, where they develop their knowledge and appreciation for nature, and understand that we need to coexist
- Promoting the local economy by hiring locals only and purchasing mainly from small local companies that share our responsibility with the environment
Future Aims:
- Improve our menu offerings to include non-traditional local ingredients
- Continue our promotion of clean energies, to include a recharging station for electric vehicles
- Partner with more organic farmers and fishermen that follow sustainable practices
- Introduce a wellness program that positively influences the consumption habits of our guests
