Pearl Beach Resort – the Eco-Boutique Resort of Gili Asahan – is settled on 4 hectares directly on the beach of the beautifully preserved island Gili Asahan close to Lombok. Easy to reach yet off the beaten path. A true jewel with white sandy beaches, home reefs, lush mountains and total peace and tranquillity – known as the first of the Secret Gilis.

Over the past 17 years, when we first discovered this magnificent paradise, we turned this area – in close cooperation and on eye to eye level with local initiatives as well as government support – into a marine park. Gita Nada Marine Park is 1279 hectares in size, conserving the unique underwater world with its’ amazing biodiversity and colourful corals.

Hand in hand with this dream – and to us a mere consequence – was to make sure that the tourism we offer is aligned with the idea to preserve this magnificent nature – thus we are running 100% on solar energy, are building with natural materials, supporting the local community, are active in rubbish recycling, etc. At the same time of course not losing the focus on offering a true barefoot luxury experience and an unforgettable stay in our privately set and beautifully designed 15 villas to our guests.

Our friends and cooperation partners for our efforts are the local Indonesian NGO Yayasan Deep Blue Sea, a Cambridge aligned marine biologist educational center and a PADI dive center on site, that allow our guests to enjoy the wonderful under water first hand in a fun and safe way and even to be part of coral transplant or mangrove transplant action if they want to.

Conservation & Community Highlights:

  1. Reef restauration; growing and planting new coral reefs
  2. Stopping illegal and destructive fishing methods
  3. Reforestation and (mangrove) tree planting
  4. Rubbish collecting and raising awareness (in collaboration with the local kids & community)
  5. Recycling (in different ways: creating our own natural fertiliser and compost from organic rubbish, operating our own glass crushing station and producing eco bricks in cooperation with a local group while creating income for them)

Future Aims:

  1. Further coral restauration projects: widening the scope, new techniques, more areas (especially slopes). Reinforcing the power and efficiency of the marine patrol.
  2. Developing further rubbish recycling possibilities: creating income opportunities the community; implementing rubbish collecting structures for the whole area of our bay (mainland and islands included).
  3. Promoting our whole area for eco-tourism: getting help for supporting environmental projects in our area that could be turned into interesting tourist destinations (there is a lot of potential we can see) with the ultimate goal to become an eco-tourism destination not only on Gili Asahan, but in the whole bay of Sekotong Desa Batu Putih.
  4. Improving English & Environmental & Tourism education options and promotion for the local community of our bay.
  5. Develop a network for volunteers and sponsors who would like to get involved/support our ideas and get connected with even more initiatives to create mutual synergy effects.
